The ancient town of Xian
Xian, the original capital city of China, is a small city of only 7 million people. This is the home of the famous Terra Cotta Warriors. They are a truly impressive sight and very well presented so you can see how they were uncovered and restored for display.
This was our first visit to a local market. It was wonderful - busy, colorful and full of great cooking smells. By the end of our trip, we discovered these markets were everywhere and it's where the locals shop. In each market, there were so many vendors selling the same things, it was hard to know how they all stayed in business.
